Review: Mozy for Mac OS X (beta)

Mozy, a popular online backup service, released a version for the Macintosh to much blogger fanfare a few weeks ago. I’ve been trying it since then, and I’m unimpressed. The service is slow. I’m on high bandwidth connections at home and at work, and I’ve yet to complete a backup. I’ve [...]

I think the headline says it all, don’t you?
I found this hilarious and, believe it or not, quite useful OS X dashboard widget today (via 43 Folders). It generates just the perfect dummy text for mockups, particularly if you work in a heady, corporate environment. I mean, aren’t we all really tired of “lorem [...]

I’m not suggesting anyone really try / do this.  Mostly this is just to demonstrate how to zoom in and out of an area on your Mac’s screen.  Don’t screw with the Apple Store folks.
Step 1: Find an unattended Mac with a 30″ Apple Cinema Display, or a big 24″ iMac. The bigger the screen, [...]

To access the address bar from the keyboard, just hit command-L. That way, you don’t have to use your mouse or trackpad to navigate to the address bar and your hands don’t have to come off the keyboard. Which is a good thing.

I have a new 802.11N AirPort Extreme, to which I have connected a LaCie 500GB HD/USB hub. I have a 100GB library of music on this hard drive. The hard drive is an AirPort Disk through the AirPort Extreme.

I used the iTunes consolidate libary option to locate my music files to this AirPort Disk. In…

Gripe: Apple Mighty Mouse

C’mon Apple. We need some extra slack in this mouse cable. It’s barely over two feet I think. I’m right-handed, so I plug mice in the left side of my MacBook Pro so that all the cable isn’t bunched up on the right hand side (plus the USB connector doesn’t bump my hand). With such a [...]

The battery percentage indicator in my menu bar never rises above 96% anymore, even when it says it’s fully charged and my AC adapter is attached. Anyone have any thoughts about this or experienced something similar? I’ve only noticed this in the past few days. It used to always indicate 99% when…

MacBook Pro - A USB / Firewire gripe.

Wouldn’t it be great for there to be just one more port of each on the MBP? I’m looking at a rats nest of cords (though with some organization and tape, it’ll work out) behind a USB/Firewire hub I just bought (and already filled the USB spots). Sighs. Too many gadgets, too few open slots. …

I just had a goofy problem. I’m sure it’s been solved in the forum before, but a casual search for the word “dock” brings up too many diverse threads. My dock disappeared! When I drug my mouse down to the bottom of the screen, my dock didn’t fade up like it normally does. A restart solved it. …
